SF Raw Discovery

Things have been quiet on the blog lately because I've been busy editing, sequencing, and printing photographs for a display at the SF Raw Discovery event, which was last night. I hadn't shown photos for quite a while before this event so I was quite nervous, plus, the event wasn't your typical gallery venue. There were all types of visual artists and vendors as well as music performers and a fashion show. It was so much fun! There was great interest and good questions about my work from many of the attendees and I even sold a few prints, which is always a good thing. Here's a peek into my preparations.

Editing photos before printing

Trimming the edges to be even

Making sure my layout is good

My final display. With the weathered wood, it was like I had created my own small forest.

A Walk in the (Muir) Woods

OK, I admit it, I had technically dedicated today to photographing the new items I need to add to my Etsy store, but, when I woke up to the sun streaming in my bedroom window (which is uncommon any time of year in San Francisco), I just couldn't resist the urge to be outside.

I dressed quickly, dropped my husband off at work so I could have the car, and headed over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods. After 3 hours in the woods, and another hour at Stinson Beach (those images will be posted this weekend), my trusty X100 had a full memory card (398 photos!) and I was full of that buzz that only comes after a successful day of art making. Here are some of the photos I made at Muir Woods.

Ashland Forests

When I was a child one of my favorite things was to grab a book, run into the backyard, climb a tree and read. Ever since I have been in love with trees and forests. I love the old-ness of trees, I love the mystery of the forest and I love the feeling of insignificance I get when I stare up into the treetops.

I think the thing I liked most about last week's trip to Ashland, Oregon, was being surrounded by trees for 5 days. Here's a small sampling of the over 500 hundred pictures I took in the woods while I was there.
