A Finished Knitted Piece--For the First Time Ever!

So, a friend of mine taught me to knit years ago, back in high school. But, at that time, it just wasn't my thing, it took too long to get a result. Then, when I was living in Savannah, Georgia, and was working Saturdays in the Tours Office at the Savannah College of Art and Design, the admissions rep I worked with showed me how to knit so we could better pass the time (this was a bit before you could spend an entire day on Facebook and YouTube). Finally, over Thanksgiving, I bought some yarn and needles at The Websters in Ashland, Oregon, thinking that I could get a decent amount of knitting done on the 5 hour drive back to San Francisco. Alas, that drive resulted in only a few inches of scarf, but, I have stuck with the project and this afternoon, I finished it! Don't get my wrong, the scarf is a bit too short for my liking and is full of holes, but I'm still proud!

Ashland Forests

When I was a child one of my favorite things was to grab a book, run into the backyard, climb a tree and read. Ever since I have been in love with trees and forests. I love the old-ness of trees, I love the mystery of the forest and I love the feeling of insignificance I get when I stare up into the treetops. 


I think the thing I liked most about last week's trip to Ashland, Oregon, was being surrounded by trees for 5 days. Here's a small sampling of the over 500 hundred pictures I took in the woods while I was there.

Thanksgiving Trip to Oregon

  

I don't know why, but I've always dreamed of going to Oregon. I love trees and fog, and Oregon seems to a place full of foggy trees. My husband and I are spending this Thanksgiving just north of the California border in Ashland, Oregon. It's a 6 hour drive from San Francisco, so here are pictures from the passenger's side of the car and our rainy arrival in Ashland. This was the view from a gas station parking lot in Red Bluff, CA.

 

In Redding, CA we got sandwiches at the San Francisco Deli. The food was good but it didn't remind me that much of San Francisco.

 

On I-5 we passed a nature preserve that was teaming with birds.

 There was a stretch of I-5 that looked an awful lot like Colorado.
