Foggy Ocean Contemplations

Last weekend I found myself in the Sunset District in San Francisco on a windy and foggy day. Days like that are, of course, my favorite, so I paid a visit to Ocean Beach. The beach was almost deserted and I was free to watch and photograph the waves while thinking about what draws me to the ocean.

I like the ocean because it makes me feel insignificant. It sounds strange, but I find it comforting to know that there are things out there that are so much bigger and stronger than me and my life. And I love visiting the ocean in the fog because the fog has this way of quieting everything and giving a sense of belonging and isolation. It makes me feel like I'm separate from everybody else while also a part of so many things.

American Museum of Natural History: Dinosaur Bones

Tomorrow is the July 4 holiday and, after several long and rough weeks, I'm as excited for the mid-week holiday as a child. So I thought it was only fitting to post these images of the best floor in the American Museum of Natural History: the dinosaur floor! I mean every kid loves dinosaurs, right?
I went to the museum with two other twenty somethings and we all were like children looking at the fossils, I believe we spent about 3 hours on this floor of alone! These photos are a small sample of what we saw.

American Museum of Natural History: Dioramas

Back to vacation pictures. One of the best adventures I had on the East Coast was my trip to the American Museum of Natural History, in New York City. It's full of interesting things, even if you're not a science nerd, and it's got a great mix of new exhibits and exhibits that look like they haven't changed since the 1950s or 60s.
I took a lot of pictures while here (the place is huge!) so here is round one; the dioramas. I've always been drawn to dioramas. With my own artwork I hope to someday create environments, pieces and installations that are based on reality but are also an alternate. Dioramas do just that, they're installations that strive to be reality but can never fully achieve it.

San Francisco Bay

Taking a break from posting trip photos, here are some photos of the San Francisco Bay from a bike ride I took this afternoon. Living in Berkeley now, I'm really missing being super close to the ocean. The Bay is not the same as the Pacific but I'm hoping it will still provide some inspiration in the future.
